The official release date is Feb. 13, 2011.
Mark your calendars. Take the day off from work. Slit your wrists when you realize you cannot buy Book 1: For Duty at your favorite bookstore. Stalk me in hopes of getting a pic of my junk as I exit a limo naked from the waist down.
Why Feb 13? Well, that’s an interesting story.
First, I think it’ll be nifty to release around Valentine’s day… after all, Book 1’s central theme revolves around love and the choices (sometimes tragic) we make when we’re surrounded by that volatile emotion. Valentine’s day seems like an appropriate companion to the launch.
Secondly, I proposed to my wonderful wife on Feb 13th exactly 10 years ago. She is the light of my life – caring, creative, forgiving, smart and sexy.
(Help! She has me tied to this chair and Wil Wheaton’s corpse is starting to rot. She’s the devil!)
Ahem… anyway, I think Feb 13th is as good as any day to release, and maybe some savvy men will purchase the Kindle edition for their women… or something. I mean, what says “I love you” better than 300KB of digital text?
What? Diamonds? Pshaw!
I’ve been working through this with my “team”, and here’s the “book blurb” for Book 1 of the Antaran Legacy:
“Caught in the middle of a war in which they have no voice, the neutral planet of Antares launches a desperate plot to end the conflict that threatens their world. The seven royal daughters of Emperor Agreios face both their enemies and challenges to their resolve. Their actions will reshape the universe.
The Antaran Legacy begins with the choices facing the small planet of Antares during the Human-Proxan War.”
Oh, I guarantee you this is not a rehash of Pocahontas/Avatar. That story has been told/retold enough… and made tons of bank in the process. Sigh.
I’ll leave you with a relevant quote:
“It is better to fail in originality than succeed in imitation.” – Herman Melville
… more on “originality” and “failure” tomorrow.
